In their second trip to the Super Bowl, the Seattle Seahawks were finally able to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Thousands of fans traveled across the county to support their team. Seahawks fans, known as the 12th Man, brought their signature loudness to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
And the 12th Man lived up to the hype. They were loud.
On the first snap of the game by Denver, crowd noise from the 12th Man caused a botched snap resulting in the earliest score in Super Bowl History as the ball tumbled into the end zone for a safety.
The Seahawks defense let officials know they scored two points because of Denver's error.
Wide receiver Doug Baldwin gained some yards.
Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith earned MVP with this pick-6, interception and touchdown.
And after crossing into the end zone Smith had a bit of fun as he jammed the ball over the goal post.
The signature Seahawks defense kept the heat on Denver through the game.
Marshawn Lynch scored a touchdown. And Skittles rained down from the stands prompting Lynch, and the grounds crew, to gather up some of the colorful candies.
In true Super Bowl fashion, the halftime show was quite the spectacle.
The show featured Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers, lots of lights and fireworks.
Immediately after halftime, Percy Harvin scored a touchdown on kickoff, and he celebrated with teammates. (I fumbled with my camera because it was still set to expose for halftime fireworks. But I made one picture as they celebrated in front of me)
The Denver defense stepped up and broke up this pass in the end zone to Seahawks wide receiver
Jermaine Kearse.
But Jermaine Kearse, left, and Doug Baldwin, right, both scored touchdowns anyway.
And the Seahawks knew they were running the show.
Quarterback Russell Wilson and Jermaine Kearse celebrated the touchdown by Kearse.
The fans let the Seahawks know what they thought.
Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning's frustration was visible.
Star defensive player Richard Sherman was injured in a play during the second half.
He had to be carted off the field. But as he was leaving he acknowledged his fans.
The clock ticked down and this night, the Seattle Seahawks made history.
And coach Pete Carroll got a dousing of Gatorade courtesy of quarterback Russell Wilson and other players.
The game came to a close.
Quarterback Russell Wilson met the legendary Peyton Manning midfield.
And then the real celebration started.
MVP Malcolm Smith was met in the midst of the celebration by his mom, who amid the chaos found a tender moment with her son.
Russell Okung got to celebrate in falling confetti.
And the Seattle Seahawks were finally able to hoist the Vince Lombardi trophy.
